Actress and former fashion model Margaret Denise Quigley was born on May 22nd, 1979 in Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S. A lot of you may know her as Maggie Q, the star of the CW's Nikita. Nikita is a remake of La Femme Nikita (1997), Point of No Return (1993) and Nikita (1990).
Maggie you may know from Rush Hour 2 (2001), Around the World in 80 Days (2004), Mission: Impossible III (2006) and Live Free or Die Hard (2007) among others.
Nikita seems to be getting a lot of positive press and good reviews. I guess I'm the only one that wasn't enamored with it. Maybe I still have Peta Wilson in my head as Nikita. Maybe I just see it as a rehash of Alias. But watching the pilot, I just couldn't get into it. Maybe the idea that Maggie Q is a lethal weapon is too much of a suspension of belief for me.
Actually, I like this new show, even though I was a big fan of the original. True Alex O'Loughlin is no Jack Lord, but I still like the show. Maybe because they care enough to keep some links to the old show like keeping the theme (major point to me), going as far as having a cameo of the original McGarrett's 1974 Mercury Marquis and keeping "Book'em Dan-O".
Now back to Grace. Grace (who was born on March 14th, 1974, Los Angeles, California, yes she is closing in on 40) plays Kona "Kono" Kalakaua. If you remember the original show, Kono was played by actor, musician, stand-up comedian and skilled surfer Zulu (Gilbert Lani Kauhi). Again in a bit of a homage, Grace's character is often shown surfing as well. Well it's either a homage, or an excuse to put Grace in a bikini. I guess this is about par for Grace, since her BSG character was Sharon Valerii or Number Eight or known by her call sign "Boomer" (later changed to Athena). Of course if you know the original Battlestar, Boomer was played by Herb Jefferson, Jr., so Grace is used to reworking male roles.
In 2005, Grace came in at 81 on Maxim Online's 2006 Hot 100 List, and in 2006 she came in at 93. In 2010, she came in at 60, and was the only Korean on the list. (Although Moon Bloodgood is Dutch, Irish and Korean and she was on the list)
Michaela Conlin was born on June 9th, 1978 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She plays Angela Montenegro on the FOX TV show "Bones". Michaela gets her exotic good looks from being of Chinese and Irish descent.
Michaela's chararcter on "Bones" is a specialist in forensic facial reconstruction at the Jeffersonian Institution, and the best friend of Dr. Temperance Brennan. Angela though is not her real name, the name Angela Montenegro came to her in a dream when she was young, and she changed her name to it on her 18th birthday.
On the show, she is the daughter of Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top (which I thought was a pretty cool twist).
Remember Anna Wu from NBC's Chuck? Julia Ling was born Shelwei Lin on February 14th, 1983 in Southern California. Julia was the awesome Anna Wu on NBC's Chuck. I don't think there has been such a combination of cute and deadly since Gogo Yubari in Kill Bill. She can fight well enough to prompt the normally unflappable Casey to call for a background check on her when he saw her fighting. And with good reason, Julia was one of ten finalists in the Los Angeles Region of Jackie Chan's Disciples competition in 2007.
Besides Chuck, Julia has appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 8 Simple Rules, ER, House, Grey's Anatomy and The O.C. Julia speaks Mandarin, Teochew, German, English and is learning more languages!
